First birthday cake smash portrait sessions

My first birthday cake smash portrait sessions are a really popular way for parents to celebrate their baby turning one. And they have even now been featured on the BBC!

Yes, I was filmed by a BBC camera crew recently and the resulting video was aired on the BBC’s Facebook page.

It means that thousands of people have now seen me in action, photographing gorgeous baby Oliver during his cake smash portrait session. It was so exciting!

Baby Oliver’s cake smash session

Oliver was a delight to photograph and he really enjoyed his cake smash.

I’m very grateful to his mummy, Catherine, who was quoted on the video saying some lovely things about my photography. And I’d like to thank all the lovely clients of mine and other people who have posted supportive comments on Facebook since the video aired.

I really very grateful to each and every one of you for liking and appreciating my work!

Cake Smash: Originated in the USA

The trend for doing a first birthday cake smash came from ‘over the pond’ initially.

British photographers started replicating the idea when they saw how popular it was becoming in America, and it has literally exploded in popularity here too.

Families across the UK are loving the concept and it’s easy to see why.

A fun (and memorable) way to celebrate turning one!

I think cake smash portrait sessions are so popular because they are such fun for the child!

Although there is some mess, it’s rare that a baby gets so carried away that the photoshoot turns into a disaster area! In fact, some babies aren’t keen to touch the birthday cake at all at first.

But, whether there is a lot or just a little mess, you’ll be pleased to know that I take care of all the clean-up.

And I bring along my miniature bath for afterwards so that your baby can get clean while enjoy splashing in the warm water and playing with the bubbles. That is a great opportunity for more pictures too.

Typically my cake smash portrait sessions last about one hour. During that time, I’ll ensure that I capture a variety of images for you to choose from and purchase; before, during and after the ‘cake smash’ itself.

A range of photo packages available

In its video, the BBC suggested that it costs £800 to have one of my cake smash portrait sessions. Yet the cost of a cake smash is actually just £95 for a weekday session or £125 for a weekend session. That price includes:

  • a pre-session consultation to plan and prepare, as well as e-mail support if required
  • a full studio session in the comfort of your own home
  • the birthday cake (I arrange this for you)
  • use of the outfits and props
  • the time and talent of your photographer
  • plus the production of a minimum of 20 lovingly edited images to review and order at your Ordering session, approximately two weeks later.

Then, you have the opportunity to purchase the photos as printed photo products or digital files. I offer three packages. Prices start at £395 although the most popular package is priced £595 and my premium package is priced £795.

A celebration of your baby’s first year

I love doing cake smash portrait sessions because I remember what a big deal my own children’s first birthdays were. As a parent, you’ve come such a long way in a short amount of time.

I remember really wanting to celebrate them turning one even though I knew they wouldn’t remember the event at all! Having a cake smash portrait session is a celebration of “making it a year” and a lovely memento of your baby’s first birthday.
