Walk through a newborn session with me.

BEHIND THE SCENES OF A NEWBORN SESSION WITH ME…

So you are thinking about a photoshoot for baby.

You have probably done your research, looked at styles, products, prices and photographers in and around Greewich for a photo shoot for baby.

Or maybe you have only just heard about photo shoot for baby and wonder what the fuss is all about.

But are you sure you know everything you need to know to make the right choice for your family?

If not… you are in the right place!

This post will show you all the little secrets that photographers normally don’t tell you.

Yes, because after all… this is a big deal.

It is not only a once in a lifetime experience (you can’t take your little one back in time to take better photos), it also is an investment for you and your partner.

So get ready, it’s time to walk through a newborn session with me!

WHERE IT ALL BEGINS (a.k.a. the studio)

You might already know that newborn sessions are normally done when the baby is under 21 days of age.

There are several reasons for this: firstly, after three weeks babies are a little harder to settle and things like colic and baby acne can start to flare up.

Also, after this stage, the baby’s spine also starts to straighten up, making it much harder to capture all the curly poses you have seen in photo.

“Ok great” – you might be thinking – “but do I really want to get out of the house and spend a couple of hours in a studio so fast after giving birth?”

Here’s the good news: as a specialised newborn photographer, my studio is built with mums (and families) in mind: I want to recreate that safe, warm and relaxing nest you have created at home.

From the fully stocked changing unit, to a selection of hot and cold drinks available and a comfy sofa for you and dad… everything has been laid out to give you a stress-free, enjoyable once-in-a-lifetime experience.

CUTENESS OVERLOAD: LET’S TALK POSES!
If you have had a chance to look at my Facebook Page  you have probably seen photos taken with different setups. For example:

Normally, if your baby falls asleep after the feed, your session would start with poses like the first and second image.

To prepare for this, I will ask you to undress the baby down to their nappy and then wrap them up in their blanket and just give them cuddles.

As the session progresses you will see me get a few different shots from differing angles and distances, using a variety of matching colours and props.

At all times, you will see me checking for cues telling me that the baby is comfortable, safe and happy. This allows me to immediately perceive even the tiniest change and adapt my workflow to your little one’s needs.

… and of course, if a top-up feed is needed, there is plenty of time to take care of that.

This is what we call a “baby-led” session.

I don’t only rely on my instinct and experience as a mum and in the studio with this, I also train regularly with top photography mentors.

WHAT ABOUT PARENTS AND… SIBLINGS?

Your photo shoot for baby also includes parents and siblings poses, where applicable.

Now I know from experience that you might be thinking “I don’t want to be in the photos! I don’t like the way I look”.

This is natural and please do not stress about it: first, it is my job to ensure the session is a pleasant and relaxing experience for everyone.

Also, these photos really are all about the connection – so there are always creative ways to show and capture it and create photos that your baby can treasure 20, 30, 40 years from now.

A picture of you holding them is probably one of the most precious gifts you can give them.

For example, we could simply (but effectively) involve your hands and arms in an image like the one below, or a cuddle holding your baby in your arms.

THE REVEAL! YOUR BABY PHOTOSHOOT GALLERY

Once your photo shoot for baby is finished, we will arrange a date and time, usually around 10 to 14 days later for you to come back and have a look at your beautiful images.

Your viewing and ordering appointment is as important as the session, because it’s where your photos become “real”: we will take all the time you need to look at your gallery and personalised slideshow and choose which products and packages suit you best.

Whether you love the idea of a Wall Art, want Prints or simply some digital files, I will help you find products that your family will treasure forever.
